Christopher Alderson has been appointed president and CEO of T.Rowe Price International (TRPI) following the retirement of David Warren. Mr Alderson, who has been with TRPI for 22 years, has led the firm’s Global Emerging Markets equity investment strategies since 1997.

Henderson Global investors has completed its acquisition of New Star Asset Management. The managers of the combined Henderson UK fund range have been confirmed and include Richard Pease, Guy de Blonay, Nick Sheridan, James Gledhill, Roger Dossett, Mark Harris, Craig Heron, Trevor Green and Simon Rowe.

Sustained levels of high volatility and an influx of investors seeking liquid markets produced a boom in foreign exchange trading last year. According to researchers Greenwich Associates, global FX trading volume increased nearly 15 per cent from 2007 to 2008 as greater activity among large financial institutions and companies more than offset the sudden collapse of hedge fund FX trading. However, this rate of growth represented a sharp fall-off from the 30 per cent increases in FX trading volume recorded in each of the previous two years.

Hedge funds were the biggest drivers of growth in global foreign exchange markets from 2006 to 2007.
